How to update softwares and patches in linux

yum – Yellowdog Updater Modified

yum  is  an interactive, automated update program which can be used for
maintaining systems using rpm

# yum check-update

command is one of:

Using up2date

Register with RHN and disply the required updates
# up2date –register
# up2date -l
Patch by applying all updates or forcefully update
# up2date -u
# up2date -uf

Using apt-get

# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
